== Biography ==

Caraley was born in New York City in 1932 and graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School. He earned his B.A. from Columbia College ''summa cum laude'' in 1954 and a Ph.D. and M.Phil from Columbia University. While a student at Columbia Law School, he was elected to Law Review. He is married to Vilma Mairo Bornemann and has three children, James Christopher Caraley (d.), David Andrew Caraley and Lisa Anne.〔http://www.nytimes.com/1988/10/09/style/vilma-bornemann-wed-to-demetrios-caraley.html〕
